Therapies for women with mental health problems

According to the World Health Organization, the rate of depression and anxiety in pregnant women in developed countries is 8 to 10%, and this percentage increases to 13% post-partum. In Vietnam, this rates of depression and anxiety during the perinatal period is much higher. According to a study, the rate of depression and anxiety in pregnant women in Ho Chi Minh City was 32.8%; in Hanam Province the rate was 39.8% in the first trimester and 28.6% in the third trimester.

Children born to mothers with mental illness tend to experience higher rates of aggression, physical underdevelopment, and difficulty in social interactions and academics.  A mother who experiences mental illness may encounter many personal difficulties which limit her ability to care for herself, her child, and her family in the way that she would like to.

At the Green Pine Clinic, senior doctor Nguyen ThiHuong Xuan specializes in mental health care.  Dr. Nguyen ThiHuong Xuan is the former head of dean 3, psycho-pathological department of women and children under the Central Mental Hospital 1.  The doctor will examine and provide treatment for women with mental illness and provide advice and appropriate interventions to help women balance their mentality and return to a healthy emotional and physical state.
