The Green Pine Clinic (GPC) was established on August 6, 2013. GPC is a part of the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The RTCCD is a community-based non-governmental organization (NGO) in Vietnam focused on maternal and child mental health and on early childhood development. The philosophy of the RTCCD is carried out through intervention projects and longitudinal research in collaboration with international universities and clinics in Australia, Canada, the United States, and Sweden.
Our research and clinical services are evidence-based and prevention focused. We believe that parents and society should consider mental and emotional development to be of equal importance to physical development. Attending to mental, emotional, and physical development assists children in developing pro-activeness, creativity, and healthy social relationships.
The latest literature indicates that children who receive developmental care early in life achieve better grades in schools, gain a higher income as adults, and overall lead more fulfilled lives (WHO, 2015). This research indicates that for every dollar invested in early childhood development, that child would put seventeen dollars of economic support back into the community as an adult. Other benefits in the long term include:
- Higher attained education levels,
- More active and independent lifestyles compared to other children with the same developmental issues,
- Strengthened relationships between the child and his or her parents, and
- Decreased incidence of crime compared to other children with the same developmental issues.
Prior to the development of the RTCCD, health programs in Vietnam were focused only on pediatric physical development through prevention of malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and infectious diseases, while child mental health was largely neglected. Unfortunately, little attention has been given to development of analytical skills, personal character, and social and life skills. The development of such skills could help to improve the overall quality of our society.
With community development perspectives in mind, RTCCD established the GPC to support caregivers with knowledge and skills in early childhood care and development. We have a strong team of dedicated experts in their respected fields, working to fulfill the philosophies of the GPC. Many opportunities are also available for those interested, both locally and internationally.
